heavy-rainfall.jpgThe Civil Protection Unit (CPU) says heavy rains are expected in the country from today to the second of next month.
In a statement, Acting Director in the department of Civil Protection Unit, Mrs Sibusisiwe Ndlovu, said  parts of Mashonaland Province, Harare , Matabeleland North and  Manicaland are expected  to receive an excess of 80 millimeters of rainfall, which will be accompanied by winds and hailstones.

Meanwhile, the Zambezi River Authority has scheduled the opening of one spillway gate on Lake Kariba on the third of next month.

The opening of the spillway will increase the river level and flow downstream of the lake with a risk of flooding for low lying areas.

The CPU advised the public to take shelter in buildings with strong roofs and close all windows and doors.

The public is also advised to avoid working in fields located across rivers or streams.
