A serious health hazard is looming at Unit J flats in Chitungwiza as residents at the settlement are living in squalid conditions with no ablution facilities and running water.
An investigation by ZBC News indicated an urgent need for a contingency plan by the local authority to diffuse a potential health hazard at the settlement and surrounding areas.
Residents raised concerns over the local authority’s lack of urgency in addressing the situation in in Chitungwiza.
Chitungwiza Municipality Director of Works, Engineer David Duma says the only way out is for families to relocate to designated areas.
Chitungwiza Municipality Director of Health and Environmental Services, Dr Tonderai Kasu said the local authority has come up with a budget to relocate some of the residents.
The typhoid outbreak experienced in some parts of the country last year is a natural consequence of the breakdown in service delivery by local authorities.
