The Hospitality Association of Zimbabwe (HAZ) has embarked on a programme to reclaim the countryâ€™s reputation as one of the worldâ€™s best tourist destination in a move which is anticipated to lure more tourists.The feat will be achieved through a series of training courses which began this week in Harare.
Staff from hotels and restaurants will be trained in food handling and customer care services.
Hospitality Association of Zimbabwe president, Mrs. Judy Jones lamented the death of proper customer services culture within the industry.
In the past, Zimbabwe had an excellent reputation resulting in the country being code named â€œZimbabwe a land of a thousand smiles.â€
â€œAll hotels, lodges and restaurants including fast food outlets should prioritise the food and customer services training considering that such standards are lacking as seen by some waiters pushing food by the table or serving wrong meals,â€ said Mrs. Jones.
Hotel Association of Zimbabwe Harare provincial chairperson, Mr. Ignatius Katsindira noted that with business in the hospitality industry taking an upward trend, it is important that high standards be maintained through guest training.
In December last year, the Hotel Association of Zimbabwe held a conference in Bulawayo that was attended by executives in the hospitality industry where it was resolved that the industry needs to get back to basics in improving lost standards.
