The development of any nation is measured by the manner in which it improves the standard of living for the less privileged citizens.
These were sentiments echoed by Professor Amon Murwira during a charity fundraising dinner hosted by ZNA’s 4 Infantry Brigade at a local hotel in Masvingo.
Professor Murwira said the eradication of poverty in Zimbabwe can only happen if people work hard and utilise all the available opportunities to better the economy.
“A nation on its own is helpless, but requires its people to work and shape the economy. If you want money, you must work for it, Zimbabwe’s hopes and aspirations are dependent on her citizens. We have to believe that we can make our economy work,” he said.
Professor Murwira also urged all Zimbabweans to prioritise issues that better the economy, while emphasising that raising the standards of the less privileged will be an indication that the economy is on the right path.
4 Infantry Brigade Deputy Commander, Colonel Blessing Maraire said the proceeds of the dinner will go towards charity organisations, while Chairperson of the Commander Zimbabwe Defense Forces Executive Interaction – Masvingo Chapter, Mr Lovemore Mandima said more events are lined up to ensure more funds are raised for the needy.
“This is a brainchild of the organising committee, the ZDF charities are among the charities that will benefit from the proceeds of such events and these include Tsanga Lodge,” said Colonel Maraire.
“This is just one of the events that we have lined up. We will also have a fun shoot before we go for the main event which will be held in Victoria Falls,” said Mr Mandima.
The organising committee revealed that $14 000 was raised during the dinner.
