The Command Agriculture Programme will come under spotlight this Wednesday when high level stakeholders converge in Harare to map out modalities on the sector.
The workshop comes in the wake of expansion of the scheme.
The Minister of Agriculture, Mechanisation and Irrigation Development Dr Joseph Made said the workshop, which will bring players linked to the sector under one platform, comes at a time the scheme which began with the special maize programme, has spread to wheat, livestock and fisheries.
“The workshop will see Vice President Emmerson Mnangagwa giving the key note address, there will be several other speakers and the role of industry will be discussed. As you know of in order to make the Food and Nutrition Security Cluster succeed, finance has been one of the major issues, so one of the speakers will be the Minister of Finance and Economic Development. The programme will also include potential financiers and we want to hear from the farmers their experiences on the ground,” said Dr Made.
Meanwhile, beneficiaries of the command agriculture scheme have stepped up deliveries to the Grain Marketing Board with farmers being urged to ensure that maize is sufficiently dry before harvesting to avoid crop loses.
