Participants to the forth coming wheelchair tennis Harare Open penciled for the end of this month have intensified preparations by going on an intensive training programme at a Harare gym.
Numerous players set to take part in the much awaited Harare Open are gearing up for the event by being part of an intensive fitness program, at a Harare gym which is offering its facilities free of charge.
Wheel chair Tennis of Zimbabwe President Lewis GarabaÂ saidÂ the association is ready for the eventÂ even though a lot still needs to be done especiallyÂ in bank rolling the tournamentÂ which begins at the end ofÂ this month.
Local fitness trainer and owner of the gym Thomas MatendeÂ said it was importantÂ to incorporate fitness training programs for theÂ physically handicapped as the game demands fitness.
The Harare Wheelchair Tennis Open is expectedÂ to lure top ranked tennis players from Africa in the first internationalÂ tournament to be held in the country.
The tournament will be the basis of the sportâ€™s development program in the country to groom players in the mould of Nyasha Mharakurwa who is recognised internationally.
