wheelchair_tennis_.jpgParticipants to the forth coming wheelchair tennis Harare Open penciled for the end of this month have intensified preparations by going on an intensive training programme at a Harare gym.

Numerous players set to take part in the much awaited Harare Open are gearing up for the event by being part of an intensive fitness program, at a Harare gym which is offering its facilities free of charge.

Wheel chair Tennis of Zimbabwe President Lewis Garaba  said  the association is ready for the event  even though a lot still needs to be done especially  in bank rolling the tournament  which begins at the end of  this month.

Local fitness trainer and owner of the gym Thomas Matende  said it was important  to incorporate fitness training programs for the  physically handicapped as the game demands fitness.

The Harare Wheelchair Tennis Open is expected  to lure top ranked tennis players from Africa in the first international  tournament to be held in the country.

 

The tournament will be the basis of the sport’s development program in the country to groom players in the mould of Nyasha Mharakurwa who is recognised internationally.
