Thousands of people have been left homeless in Eyestone area, Harare South constituency after the City of Harare demolished their houses.
A sombre atmosphere engulfed Eyestone area as residents watched hopelessly as council bull dozers razed down their homes to rubbles.
Some however managed to take their belongings out of their homes under the close supervision of the law enforcement agents.
Others were defiant insisting the demolitions are aimed at disturbing people from embarking on the voter registration exercise.
Representative of the residents who is the chairmen of the apex committee, Mr Tonderai Nkomo said the matter is before the courts but they have been taken aback after seeing the city officials demolishing their houses without any documentation to support the move.
Contacted for comment, City of Harare spokesperson Michael Chideme said every move they have made is above board insisting no one should construct houses anyhow.
This is the second time Eyestone residents have been on a demolition path after many lost their homes during ‘Operation Murambatsvina in 2005.
