The Harare City Council says as part of efforts to decongest the city, it is targeting to finish construction of new vending sites and bus ranks as indicated in their 100 day rapid results initiative.

Following the local authority’s resolution to decongest and bring sanity in the central business district (CBD) through relocation of illegal vendors and commuter operators to designated sites, work has already started on various sites around the city.

City spokesperson, Mr Michael Chideme said the project, which is part of their rapid results initiative, will be finished within the 100 day timeframe.

Despite having been given 48 hour ultimatum by the government last week to stop illegal vending in the central business district, some vendors are not ready to vacate the streets, though a survey by the ZBC News showed that some have taken heed to the call and are engaging the local authority to regularise their activities.

Vendors are also on record criticising the city council for taking long to establish the new sites.
