More than 500 vendors at the Harare Central Police flee market have been displaced following an order to vacate the vending space.
The vendors are now appealing for government intervention to retain their stalls.
The flea market near Charge Office has been closed affecting business ventures of some 500 vendors.
The vendors said no notice was given leaving them in desperation as they need somewhere to conduct their businesses which are their source of survival.
In response to the evictions, Zimbabwe Republic Police national spokesperson Senior Assistant Commissioner Charity Charamba said it is very unfortunate that the evictions were done without notice due to security issues considering the proximity of the police camp.
“The affected group should approach the authorities at Harare Central Police Station for further clarifications on the matter,” she said.
Most of the vendors were using the stalls to sell second hand clothes.
