The hail that fell over the farming area destroyed houses, household goods and livestock pens, among other property.

Several trees were either struck by lighting bolts or felled by strong winds characterising the storm.

Narrating their ordeal to ZBC News, members of the cooperative said the hailstorm that hit the area blew off roofs of several houses with some structures being totally destroyed.

Chegutu East Member of the House of Assembly, who is also the Minister of Media, Information and Publicity, Cde Webster Shamu promised to assist the households with tents and building material to ensure their lives return to normal.

I also urge people to insure their properties in case of such unfortunate incidents,” Cde Shamu said.

Since last year, several farmers have lost their crops and households property to hailstorms, which have become characteristics of the rainy season.

With global warming taking its toll on agriculture and households in general, farmers are facing challenges as the rains are either too little or very heavy.
