Hundreds of residents in Bulawayo’s Emthunzini suburb and surrounding areas are lucky to be alive after a hailstorm that occurred this Wednesday razed houses to the ground while destroying household property worth thousands of dollars.
The residents said they are lucky to be alive after they survived the hailstorm which struck at midnight and are now after a local construction company they accuse of not putting their safety first.
Hawkflight Operations Manager, Mr Martin Moyo said it is wrong for people to accuse his company over poor workmanship, arguing that the destruction was experienced across the country.
The residents are now appealing to the government through the Civil Protection Unit to provide temporary shelter in light of the rainy season.
They also called on local authorities to put in place proper housing inspection mechanisms on houses before people occupy them to preserve lives.
