Students at the Great Zimbabwe University (GZU) Mashava campus staged a demonstration this Thursday demanding a reduction in fees as well as improved wifi services, among other things.
When the ZBC News arrived, roads leading to the campus were barricaded with stones and logs with the students controlling the movement of traffic.
The students complained of high fees and also alleged that meals at the institution are sub standard.
The campus’ dining hall was vandalised during the demonstrations.
GZU Acting Vice Chancellor, Dr Andrew Chindanya said the wifi issue is being rectified, adding that some cables were disturbed during some construction work.
On the fees issue, he said confusion seems to be emanating from the $50 that is paid by students who do practical subjects.
Dr Chindanya said some departments did not have practicals but they have since been introduced, hence the students are now required to pay the fee for practical subjects.
Dr Chindanya added that they will engage the students as they seek to come up with amicable solutions.
