Gwanzura Stadium has been turned into a white elephant though the City of Harare insists it has paid contractors to begin a major facelift on the facility.
The dream of seeing premiership action at Gwanzura Stadium is what, especially the Highfield residents are yearning for.
The stadium was closed two years back and since then no activity to refurbish the stadium is visible on the ground.
Harare City Council spokesperson Michael Chideme said they have paid various contractors to begin a major facelift on the sporting facility which includes regrassing the stadium’s turf.
Chideme said the council has started the routine maintenance of stadiums in order to take football action nearer to residents.
The ceremonial home of football Rufaro Stadium will see council resuming the installation of bucket seats while Dzivarasekwa Stadium will also receive a major facelift.
With the number of premiership teams escalating in the capital, given the limited number of stadia that the country boasts of, it remains to be seen how the puzzle will be solved.
