chombo-ignatius-.jpgA Committee to investigate alleged cases of illegal possession of houses and self enriching activities by MDC T councillors in the city of Harare will soon be established by government.

Following the eviction of Glen Norah families by MDC T councilors through court orders, Local Government Rural and Urban Development Minister Cde Ignatius Chombo went on a fact finding mission in Glen Norah a to establish what  transpired.

During a one on one session with the families, Dr Chombo said the duties of the MDC T councilors was to formulate policies that improve the day to day running of the city council instead of allocating themselves houses that belong to the poor.

He said the MDC T councilors’ behavior is a social injustice and a committee will be  set to investigate the issue and an appropriate action will be taken.

The families took turns to brief the minister on the issue. One of the family members alleged that councilor Hebert Gomba who is said to be working in cahoots with a council official at the district office threatened to demote her from work if she failed to vacate the house.

As stories of corrupt MDC T councilors keep unfolding local government experts feel that stern measures should be put in place by the responsible authorities to address the root problem.
