The government is set to intensify the implementation of the indigenisation programmes through the unveiling of more Community Share Ownership Trusts and Employee Share Ownership Schemes this year.
Speaking to ZBC News, the Minister of Youth Development, Indigenisation and Empowerment, Cde Saviour Kasukuwere, said the roll-out of more schemes will cement the government’s position on the indigenisation programme to ensure broad-based empowerment.
Under the indigenisation programme, government launched the Community Share Ownership Trust for Zimplats and Unki mines, while other mining firms are set to launch theirs this year.
Local beverages manufacturer, Schweppes Zimbabwe, also launched an Employee Share Ownership Scheme.
The implementation of the indigenisation programme has been under the spotlight from empowerment groups which called for its implementation in the retail sector which has witnessed rampant licensing of foreigners at the expense of locals.
The retail sector and other low capital businesses have been reserved for indigenous Zimbabweans.
