Minister Chombo was speaking in Mutare at a meeting with traditional chiefs from Manicaland Province.

Although government has come up with some programmes and schemes to improve the lives of traditional leaders such as the vehicle scheme and electrification of their homes, not much is being done by the inclusive government to implement the projects.

This is being attributed to lack of respect for the chiefs by those in charge of the country’s coffers.

Minister Chombo explained that some 270 vehicles have been distributed to chiefs since the inception of the scheme but not all chiefs have benefitted.

He said however even those that were distributed in the 1st batch in 2005, now need to be replaced as they have been affected by wear and tear.

Dr Chombo also informed the chiefs that their request to change the chiefs regalia is being considered adding that three consultants will be asked to come up with  samples.
