Schools in Uzumba have been urged to grow small grains to improve on food security.

Uzumba legislator, Cde Simbaneuta Mudarikwa, who was the guest speaker at the launch of the small grains production programmes in schools at Machekera Primary School, said apart from growing small grains, schools should also join government programmes like command agriculture to improve on food security and to also venture into cotton production.

Ms Melody Nyonyamo from COTTCO invited the schools to join cotton production as there are readily available inputs.

The schools received small grain seeds for planting this season which include rapoko, grounduts, millet and roundnuts.
