The Grain Millers Association of Zimbabwe has thrown its weight behind the recently launched Buy Zimbabwe Campaign, saying the idea is noble and requires support from all stakeholders in promoting local products.
Following criticism of the recently launched Buy Zimbabwe Campaign by members of the business community last week, Grain Millers Association of Zimbabwe has defended the concept of the campaign saying it promotes local products.
In an interview with ZBC News in Harare, Grain Millers Association of Zimbabwe Chairman, Mr Tafadzwa Musarara said criticism from some members of the business community is misplaced considering the project seeks to promote the purchase of local products to foreign ones.
On the timing of the concept, Mr Musarara indicated that this is the right time for the local business people to buy-in the concept which will assist in the revival of the local industry.
The buy Zimbabwe Campaign was launched in a bid to ensure that local consumers identify themselves with locally manufactured products after realising that most of the retail outlets are being flooded with imported products.
Some members of the business community questioned the relevance of the concept considering that local industry’s capacity utilisation is still very low.
