The government is in the process of crafting a new national human settlement policy that seeks to promote economic planning and development to do away with unplanned settlements across the country.

The process involves reviewing the 2012 national housing in order to address the challenges being faced in the housing sector.

“The sprouting of unplanned settlements has become a menace in the country. So we need to relook at the old policy and make other options that address all the challenges that we are facing in terms of housing,” said Mr Lexton Kuwanda, the Director of National Housing and Social Amenities in the Ministry of Local Government, Public Works and National Housing, speaking on the sidelines of the Harare Stakeholders Consultation Meeting for National Human Settlement Policy in Harare today.

The consultations have been conducted in all the country’s 10n provinces with stakeholders from the responsible ministry and local authorities giving their views before being approved.
