The government has warned gold panners who have been engaging in acts of violence that it will soon descend to stamp out the menace.
The government has warned the machete wielding gold panners who have turned areas they operate in into war-zones through spates of violence which has claimed lives.
Mines and Mining Development Minister Cde Walter Chidhakwa said the government will not fold its arms and watch the prevailing peace and tranquility in the country being threatened by greedy panners adding that those caught committing such acts of violence will face the full mighty of the law.
A cabinet committee has since been set up to stamp out the menace once and for all.
His warning comes against a back drop of numerous reports of acts of violence and murder among gold panners.
In the Midlands Province, cases of extreme violence and murder have been reported in Kwekwe’s Globe Phoenix Mine and Zvishavane were people now live in fear of machete wielding gold panners.
