Residents of Garikayi/Hlalani Kuhle housing project in Marondera are appealing to responsible authorities to expeditiously resolve the issue of which administrative authority is in charge of their area.

When the government embarked on the Garikayi/Hlalani Kuhle housing programme it came as a relief to many families who had been affected by Operation Murambatsvina.

Among the beneficiaries are families in Marondera who were settled at Elmswood Farm just outside Marondera town.

More than a decade down the line, the issue of boundaries is still a contentious one as the area falls in ward 6 under Marondera Rural District Council and Marondera East constituency.

However, the government handed over the administration of the area to Marondera Municipality.

The area which has two phases currently has more than 1000 households.

Part of the area also does not have electricity leaving residents having to rely on firewood from nearby farms.
