The speaker of the House of Assembly Advocate Jacob Mudenda says the 2018 national budget should cater for women empowerment programmes as government scales up efforts in advancing women in its development agenda.
Women have for long been unfairly treated by society as they have played second fiddle to their male counterparts in the country’s development agenda with government now scaling up efforts towards ensuring the existence of gender parity.
Officiating at a parliamentary gender responsive budgeting training workshop in Bulawayo, Speaker of the House of Assembly Advocate Jacob Mudenda urged Treasury to consider womens’ needs as it crafts the 2018 national budget.
Some of the parliamentarians who spoke to ZBC News said women form the core of socio and economic development agenda of the nation and as such shall be given enough opportunities to transform the nation.
The two day parliament gender responsive budgeting training workshop is being held under the theme “Gender Responsive Budgeting”.
