The Minister of Local Government, Public Works and National Housing, Cde Saviour Kasukuwere says the government is committed to addressing challenges that Highfield residents are facing which include housing issues.
Cde Kasukuwere met with Highfield residents in Harare who aired their grievances to the minister which include the eviction orders issued by council in respect to houses in the Geneva section.
In response, Minister Kasukuwere, who inspected the core houses, said he will engage the Mayor of Harare and other council officials so that the problems to do with housing can be addressed.
Highfield West legislator, Cde Psychology Maziwisa said the meeting was a step in the process of regularising housing problems being faced by Highfield residents mostly those in the Geneva section.
The residents are up in arms with the Harare City Council following notices of eviction.
The council has condemned the Geneva housing units as unfit for human habitation as families with as many as 10 members are reportedly sharing the one room in the structures built in the 1970s.
