Vice President Retired General Constantino Chiwenga has assured all Norton residents duped by land barons that they will not be dispossessed of their stands but will have the unplanned settlements regularised as per the town’s master plan designed by the Ministry of Local Government, Public Works and National Housing.

He said this at a Zanu PF rally at Kingsdale, Norton, which is home to thousands of home seekers who are said to have paid large sums of money to land barons but failed to service the area, let alone offer security of tenure documents.

Vice President Chiwenga told those affected by land barons’ fraudulent schemes in Norton to stay put in their settlements until government regularises their areas.

In cases where it is difficult to regularise, Cde Chiwenga said beneficiaries will have houses built for them by government.

The Vice President also hinted that Norton is to soon get municipal status and have its hospital upgraded to a referral healthcare facility.

Turning to the demands by the MDC Alliance to ZEC, he said the executive has nothing to do with the electoral body as it is an independent one constituted by parliament and bound by the Electoral Act.

Among those who attended the Norton rally were Zanu PF Chairperson Oppah Muchinguri Kashiri, Politburo member Paul Munyaradzi Mangwana and Zanu PF Norton candidate for the National Assembly, Ambassador Chris Mutsvangwa.
