The government says it is introducing model houses for rural areas in light of climate change with Chikomba district set to have the first beneficiaries.

Vice President Retired General Dr Constantino Chiwenga who toured areas affected by Cyclone Idai in the Masasa area of Chikomba district said the model houses will be built by the Zimbabwe National Army for two of the victims Gogo Loraine Mudzingwa who is blind and has five children and Gogo Espinah Mugariri who is taking care of five orphans.

Minister of State for Mashonaland East Cde Apolonia Munzverengwi and Minister of Transport and Infrastructural Development Joel Matiza made commitments to ensure lives of all survivors get back to normal.

Vice President Chiwenga donated various items including food and clothes to victims of the cyclone.

Chikomba district is the worst affected in Mashonaland East with one person having died while more than 300 households, bridges, clinics and schools were damaged.
