The government has emphasised the vital role played by the aviation industry in the promotion of the country’s tourism sector.
As the country moves to boost tourist arrivals from both traditional and new source markets, the aviation industry has been identified as central in the attainment of these targets.
The Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Tourism and Hospitality Industry, Mr Munesushe Munodawafa said the government is looking at improving aviation infrastructure in areas like Masvingo and Mutare which have played second fiddle to Harare, Bulawayo and Victoria Falls, and yet are still significant tourism players.
The sentiments follow the hosting of the International Aviation Careers Guidance Expo at the University of Zimbabwe (UZ) grounds today, where pupils from various schools were exposed to the mandate of the aviation industry.
Trainee pilot, Innocent Takavarasha said exhibitions of this nature are vital in demystifying issues around aviation amongst learners.
The exhibition comes at a time when the regional aviation industry is fast picking momentum led by Ethiopian Airlines.
