The scrapping of cost of blood at all public health institutions was announced by Health and Child Care Minister Dr David Parirenyatwa at the launch of the Zimbabwe Health Financing Strategy and Policy at Mrewa Hospital.

Due to the success of the Health Levy Fund, the government has scrapped the cost of blood which had become expensive to the country’s citizens.

Dr Parirenyatwa also said the country should have a sound domestic health financing system and not rely on donor funding.

Zimbabwe’s first National Health Financing Strategy and Policy outlines specific reform initiatives around financing arrangements in the health sector that are necessary for achieving goals and objectives that have been set for the health sector.
