The government has offered US$200 each for the burial of the 20 people who perished in yesterday’s bus disaster which occurred at Nyamatikiti river, 20 kilometers from Mvuma on the Harare Masvingo highway.
In a statement to the ZBC News, the Acting Minister of Local Government, Public Works and National Housing, Dr Obert Mpofu said he has invoked section 32(C) of the Civil Protection Act and accordingly offered the cash assistance.
On behalf of the government and the country at large, Minister Mpofu also offered heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and wished those hospitalised a speedy recovery.
Dr Mpofu in the meantime, urged road users to exercise caution as they travel especially during the forthcoming Easter and Independence holidays.
Dr Mpofu also said passengers on their part should contribute towards their safe travel by proactively expressing their displeasure to reckless drivers.
Meanwhile, the Zimbabwe Republic Police is advising relatives of those who were travelling in the Proliner bus to report to Gweru Hospital for DNA sampling to establish the identities of the deceased.
