Celebrating World Habitat Day in Harare this Wednesday, the Minister of National Housing and Social Amenities, Mr Giles Mutsekwa (pictured) said this organisation will act as an umbrella body for all the stakeholders in human settlement.

He said Zimhabitat, which was born from the second National Housing Convention that was held in Victoria Falls in 2009, will be a conduit between the government and the international community in the resuscitation of human settlements development.

Speaking at the same occasion, United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Country Director, Christine Umutoni, who was representing the UNDP Resident Representative, hailed the government for creating Zimhabitat, saying it will play a significant role in housing development and climate change issues.

The World Habitat Day, which was celebrated under the theme “Cities and Climate Change,” comes at a time when the government has failed to embark on major housing constructions due to sanctions induced challenges.
