The government has rolled out the national water harvesting programme in Masvingo with a target to create weirs that will assist in preserving water in every ward countrywide.
The programme was launched by the Minister of Environment, Water and Climate, Cde Oppah Muchinguri Kshiri in Masvingo’s Chebvute area.
Cde Muchinguri-Kashiri told villagers and other heads of departments within her ministry that preservation of natural resources and wildlife is the role of every citizen as she promised that the government will ensure weirs are built in every ward to preserve water for communities.
While Zimbabwe receives an average 46 billion cubic litres of water per year, only 10 billion is preserved.
This has created problems for communities, wildlife and all farming endeavours nationwide.
