Government has intensified the command water harvesting programme by roping in provincial ministers of state to monitor measures being implemented to step up water conservation and utilising runaway water sustainably.
The initiative is being spearheaded by the Ministry of Environment, Water and Climate.
Addressing Ministers of State for Provincial Affairs, Minister of Environment, Water and Climate Cde Oppah Muchinguri-Kashiri said 60 tonnes of cement have been availed in each province to build and rehabilitate water conservation infrastructure.
The command water harvesting programme was announced early this year following realisation of the large quantities of water are lost due to runoff across the country.
Opportunities for water harvesting are visible as many buildings do not have rooftop water harvesting facilities.
The ministry under its 100 day quick wins initiative guided by President Emmerson Mnangagwa has begun drilling boreholes and construction of weirs in each constituency.
The programme is set to help communities adapt to climate change.
Under the borehole drilling programme, four boreholes are targeted in each constituency.
