The government is expected to announce the results of the national crop assessment in two weeks, indicating what quantities farmers planted and are likely to harvest this season.

The national crop assessment exercise was conducted throughout the country by Agritex officers.

The Deputy Minister of Lands, Agriculture and Rural Resettlement, Cde Davis Marapira said the results of the exercise are being compiled into a comprehensive report for onward submission to cabinet before being publicised.

“Yes the exercise was completed and compilation is being finalised but expect the results in two weeks,” he said.

Indications are that farmers under irrigation will obtain better yields than dry land farmers due to the prolonged dry spell last year and erratic rainfall patterns which affected crops in several districts.
