Repairs of major roads, bridges and infrastructure damaged by Cyclone Dineo in Mberengwa have started.
Mberengwa is one of the worst affected districts in the province.
The development has brought a huge sigh of relief to communities that have been isolated for weeks.
Speaking to ZBC News after his assessment of rehabilitation works at Mwanezi Bridge in Mberengwa, Transport and Infrastructural Development Deputy Minister Engineer Micheal Madanha says the rehabilitation of infrastructure will be carried out in three phases with the first phase focusing mainly on clinics, schools, roads and bridges.
For weeks, villagers have been cut off from free access of other services with many resorting to using a makeshift crossing ladder and endangering themselves.
The villagers have however hailed government for its responsiveness to their plight.
The Mwanezi Bridge is the major bridge in the district linking the villagers with West Nicklson in Matabeleland South.
Government has availed close to US$15 million for the rehabilitation of infrastructure.
