The conversion of farmland to housing development has riled the Ministry of Lands, Agriculture and Rural Resettlement with Deputy Minister Davis Marapira repeating calls for preservation of land for production.

The agricultural sector continues to be on the losing side as corrupt beneficiaries of the land reform programme and some local authorities are profiteering by converting land meant for farming into residential stands.

Cde Marapira said his ministry will continue advocating for a stop to the malpractice as the economy depends heavily on the agricultural sector performance.

The Land Commission is already tackling some of the outstanding land issues dating back to 2005.
