The Ministry of Transport and Infrastructural Development has commissioned two bridges in Gwanda district constructed under the food for work programme amid calls for communities to continue contributing towards the success of government’s people-centred policies.
The food for assets programme launched by government last year saw the community of Mlambhapheli in Gwanda South and Ntalale in Gwanda North receiving support to construct key bridges in their areas.
Community leaders spoke about the challenges that they had been facing while the District Development Fund (DDF) that channeled US$115 000 towards the construction of the bridges said the parastatal is ready to partner all communities in the improvement of road infrastructure.
Rural Development, Promotion and Preservation of National Culture and Heritage Minister Cde Abednico Ncube hailed the development in the district but spoke of the urgent need to repair infrastructure destroyed by floods.
Transport and Infrastructural Development Minister Dr Joram Gumbo noted that the commissioning of the bridges is testimony of the success of government programmes.
The government further pledged its commitment to improve road infrastructure in all parts of the country through local authorities, DDF and other players.
