The government has dispatched Agritex officers countrywide to carry out a crop assessment which will determine output of maize and other crops this season.

A combination of a prolonged dry spell which affected the state of most crops and the current incessant rains being experienced countrywide has prompted the government to task teams of Agritex officer to go the ground and produce a crop assessment report.

“The Agritex teams are expected to come up with a comprehensive national crop assessment report which will reflect the impact of the dry spell which destroyed crops in various parts of the country and what the country can salvage following the current rains says lands,” The Minister of Lands, Agriculture and Rural Resettlement, Retired Air Chief Marshal Perrance Shiri said.

The return of the rains after a prolonged dry spell has brought back a ray of hope to the nation with some crops now showing signs of recovery.
