The government has availed $30 million for the rehabilitation of roads in Manicaland Province a move expected to benefit farmers in transporting their farm produce.
The Presidential Free Cotton Inputs Scheme has been launched in Checheche with the Minister of State for Manicaland Province Senator Monica Mutsvangwa saying part of the $30 million availed will be used for the completion of the Ngundu-Tanganda road which cotton farmers mainly use and had been seriously affected by potholes.
She said President Mnangagwa’s administration remains committed to supporting cotton farmers as plans are underway to open factories in Checheche.
The Cotton Company of Zimbabwe Head of Corporate Services, Mr Benedict Mugura-Gumeni said the free cotton inputs scheme which began in 2015 has helped revive cotton farming.
The 3-year programme has transformed cotton farmers’ lives.
The Presidential Cotton Inputs programme is targeting 400 000 households countrywide with the package comprising of seed, fertiliser and an assortment of agrochemicals for pest control.
