The government has moved in to assist 56 households in Chingwizi, following the destruction of their houses by strong winds that were experienced in the area two weeks ago.
Each of the affected households has received $2000, among other basic needs.
Members of the Masvingo Civil Protection Unit visited the area to meet the affected villagers led by Minister of State for Masvingo Cde Ezra Chadzamira.
“We saw it fit to assist the people affected with what have got for now,” said Cde Chadzamira.
The Red Cross Association Masvingo province also stepped in with materials to build temporary shelter and basics for household use.
“We have brought some mosquito nets and other goods that can assist the affected people,” said Mrs Fungai Maregedze, Red Cross Masvingo Provincial Manager.
The government also assured the villagers that they will increase the monthly grain allocation for the Chingwizi villagers who were resettled in 2014 following a rise of water levels at Tokwe Mukosi dam.
Each household was allocated one hectare of land, with villagers appealing for more land to ensure they have enough for tillage and grazing for their livestock.
