Vice President Cde Emmerson Mnangagwa has assured farmers who registered under the command wheat programme that sufficient inputs have been acquired.

In an interview with ZBC News, Cde Mnangagwa said the government has already acquired all the required inputs, revealing some are still being delivered to provinces who will in turn deliver to the districts.

“Everything is now in place for the winter wheat programme. Now we are busy distributing the inputs to all provinces. Of course there are some farmers who haven’t received the inputs but it doesn’t mean they are not there. We have many farmers around the country and it is impossible to get the inputs to all farmers at the same time, they will come bit by bit,” says Cde Mnangagwa.

The ideal time to plant wheat is between the 15th of April and 15th of May.

However, farmers can still plant up to the 30th of May, but delays have an adverse effect on yields.

The command agriculture programme seeks to ensure that the country is self sufficient in food production.
