Goromonzi farmers who took part in the command farming programme have been commended for exceptional production which will see high maize output emerging from the district.
After more than 630 farmers took part in the command agriculture scheme.
Speaking at a field day at Tyrone Farm Goromonzi District Administrator Prisca Dube urged farmers to take advantage of government initiated programmes in agriculture to enhance efforts aimed at increasing food security and boosting economic growth.
Host farmer Noah Mangondo who planted 100 hectares of maize hailed government for giving a lifeline to farmers who were burdened with lack of capital.
Seedco head of agronomy John Bhasera attributed the success being recorded by many farmers to good agronomic practices.
Farmers are now gearing for the harvest season with a national output of 2 million tonnes of maize expected.
