Various schools from Goromonzi district received awards in different categories for their competences based curriculum in academic, sport and arts during the district’s merit awards ceremony held at Visitation Makumbe High School.

The district merit awards saw schools with the best records of learners who attained 5 units in grade 7, O level students with 9 ‘A’s or more and those with 15 points at advanced levels receiving certificates and awards.

The gathering that included chiefs and headmasters commended the programme saying it will bring a spirit of hardworking among the school children.

These awards are meant to fully implement the new curriculum which needs competent and sharp minded students said Deputy Minister of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services Cde Energy Mutodi.

“Goromonzi district has so many schools that need to be upgraded and become better schools,” he said.

Besides academic participation students need to be rewarded on sporting activities and arts for them to fully showcase their talents, explained Mr Tapfumanei Matimbe, Goromonzi district schools inspector.

“The district has produced athletes, bands, choirs and teams which have done well at provincial, national and international level,” he said.

The awards were held under the theme, “Consolidation of the Competence Based Curriculum to Accommodate Leaner Diversity”.
