Local golfers have lamented lack of tournaments for the poor performance during the just ended 4-day Zimbabwe Open Golf Tournament at Royal Harare Golf Club in Harare.

Out of the huge field of 156 golfers who participated in the 2 million rand sponsored Old Mutual Zimbabwe Open Golf Tournament, only 30 were locals and out of those, seven were amateurs given direct entry by the organising committee by virtue of being on top of the order of merit.

Of the 30 professionals and amateurs, only five made the cut and of the five, three were professionals based in South Africa and playing regularly on the Sunshine Tour and two local based.

Lack of adequate practice tournaments affected local professional golfers as they are used to run their own administration issues as well as tournaments through the Zimbabwe Professional Golf Association (ZPGA).
