Borrowdale Brooke’s Stephen Ferreira played the best round of his life on Thursday an 11-under-par 62 and the first round lead of the Zambia Sugar Open being played at Lusaka Golf Club.
Ferreira finished the second round on Friday (today) on 13 under tied with South Africa’s Jared Harvey.
Fresh from playing in the just-ended Zimbabwe Open the 25-year-old Ferreira who plays out of Borrowdale Brook Golf Club in Zimbabwe, made two birdies on his way through six holes and then it all exploded into action as he eagled seven, birdied eight, nine and 11, and then made four more birdies in his five closing holes.
South Africa’s Oliver Bekker and Rhys West on-12 and 11 under are in third and fourth place.
Ferreira was quoted as saying he was very happy with the way he played and everything seemed to work and go his way.
He said he had a bit of a lucky shot on seven after pitching it just over the bunker and it went in, and that kind of boosted his round from there.
It was a day of impressive scoring, behind the five players on seven-under, there were three players on six-under, including last week’s 2017 Zimbabwe Open champion JC Ritchie and four players on five-under-par, and the man who finished fourth in Harare, Jaco Ahlers, was among them.
For Ferreira, it is about more of the same as he gets going in the third round tomorrow.
