golf-ball.jpgThe Organising Committee of the Africom Zimbabwe Open Golf Tournament has launched and unveiled the dates for the 2011 tournament which will be held from 27th to 31 January at the Royal Harare Golf Club.


The Organising Committee of Africom Zimbabwe Open announced the dates at a media conference where they also unveiled the new logo at the Royal Harare Golf Club in the capital.


Chairman of the Organising Committee Livingstone Gwata said next year’s tournament which is the 20th edition of the major tournament will be held over four days instead of the usual three.


Sponsors Africom CEO Kwanayi Kashangura, said the growth shown by the tournament has increased their confidence and sponsorship of the Zimbabwe Open golf tournament.


ZPGA President Ackil Yousef paid tribute to the sponsors for their confidence in the game and the organising committee.


This year, the tournament was held in April.


The Africom Zimbabwe Open is a golf tournament on the Sunshine tour circuit. It was first played in 1984 and was part of what was known as the Safari tour, a collection of events in Africa that was played by professionals based on the European Challenge Tour.


The tournament has attracted some of the world’s best leading players. Past winners include major golf stars like Vijay Singh and Nick Price, who along with Mark McNulty is the most successful player at the event, both men having recorded three victories.
