The command livestock programme which was initiated recently by the government has taken off the ground with the official launch of the Goat Breeders Association of Zimbabwe today in the capital.

Speaking at the official launch of association, guest of honour, Deputy Chief Secretary to the Office of the President and Cabinet Mr Justin Mupamhanga said pursuit that falls in line with the vision of government under the command livestock programme is welcome and should be supported always for the purpose of spurring the economy forward.

Vice chairperson of the association, Dr Divine Ndhlukula said the main objective is to promote the production of goat breeding in Zimbabwe which seeks to provide the knowledge, expertise, tools and opportunities necessary to catalyse the growth of the country’s economy through the goat breeding industry.

If such initiatives like command livestock are taken seriously, Zimbabwe will in the short term reclaim its Asian and European markets as an export base for beef and goat meat.
