The government and the Zimbabwe Farmers Union (ZFU) initiative of establishing Grain Marketing Board (GMB) depots within a radius of ten kilometres will ensure that no grain is lost and it will give easy access of the market for farmers.

Farmers have welcomed the initiative to lessen transport costs and ensure that there is little or no grain loss as the harvesting season gets to its peak.

President of the ZFU, Mr Abdul Credit Nyathi said this year`s bumper harvest is the best in 37 years.

He said a combination of good rains and the command agriculture programme initiated by the government has led to the bumper yield.

Mr Nyathi further stated that they are still awaiting modalities for the implementation of the command livestock programme by government where the dryer regions of the country such as Matabeleland North and South as well as Masvingo and parts of Midlands are expected to get a lion’s share under command livestock as they form the country`s ranching belt.
