School girls from Mashonaland East converged at Monte Cassino Girls in Macheke for the Girls in ICT Day commemorations.
Held under the theme: ‘Expanding Horizons, Changing Attitudes’, the commemorations which were organised by the Postal and Telecommunications Regulatory Authority of Zimbabwe (POTRAZ) attracted girls from schools all over Mashonaland East.
Guest of hour at the event Mrs Nyaradzo Marimbidze told the girls that there are a lot of women involved in ICT whom they should emulate.
Ms Chali Tumelo from the International Telecommunications Union (ITU) urged the girls to make a difference in communities and at individual level through full utilisation of ICTs.
“The world today requires people who are ICT compliant, so it is upon you to ensure you are part of the system,” she said.
The Girls in ICT Day is an initiative backed by all ITU member states with the aim of creating a global environment that empowers and encourage girls and young women to consider careers in ICT.
