general chiwenga walking.jpgThe Commander Zimbabwe Defence Forces, General Constantine Chiwenga has scoffed at the private media’s propensity for spreading malicious rumours over his health status, saying he remains fit and well.

Following private media reports suggesting that the ZDF Commander had been flown to China due to serious illness, General Chiwenga dismissed the story as completely unfounded falsehoods bent on tarnishing his image.

“You do not gain anything by writing such a sensational story, which is not true. If people were to be as sick as other people would want them to be, then everybody would have died. If people are not there, it does not mean that they are necessarily sick,” General Chiwenga said.

General Chiwenga was in good health as evidenced by his participation in the country’s 31st national independence celebrations held at the National Sports Stadium Harare.

It is not the first time that the private media has courted controversy for invading the privacy of the country’s leadership.

Recent unfounded reports are that the Head of State and Government and Commander-in-Chief of the Zimbabwe Defence Forces, President Robert Mugabe could hardly walk on his own.

However, President Mugabe inspected the Guard of Honour mounted by all the uniformed forces at the 31st independence commemorations and discharged all his obligations at the occasion in a clear demonstration that he is medically fit and in good health.
