Under representation of women in the area of sport administration again came to the fore at a two-day workshop on gender equality and diversity hosted by the Zimbabwe Olympic Committee (ZOC) Gender Equality and Diversity Commission.

Participants pointed to the significance of the workshop outlining the need for a paradigm shift from the current scenario of continued male dominance in sports administration.

The Gender Equality and Diversity Commission previously known as the Women in Sport Commission has the responsibility of working towards creating an environment of equal opportunities on the sporting arena.

Women athletes have excelled on the Zimbabwean sporting arena with the country’s eight Olympic medals all coming from female athletes.

Despite evidence of success women continue to be overshadowed by their male counterparts when it comes to positions of leadership on the sporting front.
