Libyan leader, Colonel Muammar Gaddafi says he is ready to hand power over to the Libyan opposition National Transitional Council (NTC) on condition that rebel leaders begin talks with him to end months of violence.
According to Russia Today, Gaddafi’s son, Saadi, told al Arabiya television in a telephone interview from an undisclosed location in Libya that as far as Gaddafi is concerned, he will not carry guns against Libyan people.
Saadi said his father is urging all the warring parties to lay down their weapons and start engaging in negotiations.
He said the information has already been communicated to Abdel Hakim Belhadj, who is the chief of anti-Gaddafi forces in Tripoli, with authorisation from his father.
Saadi acknowledged that the NTC represent a legal party, but the fact that Gaddafi is a leader of a government must be taken into account and has to be involved in the negotiating process of Libya’s future.
Meanwhile an international conference of friends of Libya will open in Paris on Thursday, where a total of 60 foreign delegates are going to discuss the country’s way forward.
